...that I turned out the way I did…

That’s my Mom, my sister and me (in the front basket) this would have been taken in High River, Alberta – I would have been about four or five…? In the background it the grounds to the old hospital across the street from where we lived. I think the bike was a CCM. My dad also had a matching green men’s version.

At least you got the luxury of an actual seat (that's actually a pretty sweet setup for two kids, I've never seen a front seat like that).
ReplyDeleteI remember us kids sitting on a small pillow draped over the top tube, hanging onto the inner portion of the handlebars with our hands (and parents always telling us to stop resisting steering into corners, a natural impulse when you're not the one balancing).
Oh yeah, and my dad added a footrest on the down tube (i.e. a piece of plywood strapped to down tube) for extra comfort...
Our kids ride in relative luxury now in their weather-proof trailer.
Wait a minute, I just realized that looks more like a utility basket used as a seat in the front...
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't a seat on the front. It was a newspaper delivery basket - pretty much a big open metal frame. my mom put a pillow in it and I sat with my legs dangling through the gaps dangerously close to the wheel.
ReplyDeleteBike safety people would probably go into shock looking at this picture... or any of the stuff we did back in the day...
