Amanda's Moonlander

It' dropped in temperature and dumped a bunch of snow over the last few days....

Amanda is what you'd call a "fair-weather rider" that is occasionally forced to ride in inclement weather. (By "occasionally" I mean six months of the year). She does not love snow or ice or winter and while I have been aware of the Surly Pugsley and Moonlanders existence for as long as they've been around, Amanda first saw one last week when we ran into Gerald riding his down the street...

Gerald and HIS Moonlander.

Amanda eyeing Gerlad's Moolander, gears starting to turn in her head....

I think the next day she was on the phone to the Bike doctor to see if they had one in stock... they did...

So this evening Amanda brought home her new Moonlander.

Amanda and her fancy new bike.

Apparently it RAWKS!

Up close view in the stable. We'll have to get some "action" shots in daylight some time soon.

I'm still hauling the kids on the Yuba. Luckily the city is getting good at clearing the multi-use pathways...

I wonder if one could okk up an Extracycle to a Moonlander....? Probably not enough clearance for the wheels...

  3. "She does not love snow or ice or winter..."

Then what the heck is she doing in Saskatoon? ;-)

Anyways, when are you getting one? Or do you want to be all like different and get a Pugsley?

  4. Maybe when the kids are big enough to ride in the winter on their own we'll get three more!? Of if Surly makes a long tail cargo version...?!

  5. I have never seen one of those before.... can you do a wheel swap for summer riding or is it a one season wonder?? :o)

  6. You could still do some serious all-season, all terrain bombing on those tires... Vik seems to use his year-round:

I suppose you could use different wheels in the summer , but you'd need a different wheelset with narrower rims to fit smaller tires and you'd need a different front hub as the spacing on the fork is 135mm (same as for rear hubs). I've seen a Pugsley that simply used a rear hub on the front, but I think Surly makes a front hub with 135mm spacing.

  7. Amazing looking bike, but £1600 here, and we just don't get enough snow to warrant it.. :o)
